“As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.”
1 Peter 1:14
Now that God has revealed some heart issues that pertain to our lack of boundaries, it’s time to take some actionable steps to improving it. Many of us make excuses for our behavior- “I’ve always been like this,” or “It’s _______’s fault that I do what I do. I don’t have a choice.” What we find from God’s Word is that we are absolutely in control of our actions, thoughts, and attitudes. No one is in control of us but US, and hopefully God.
We can no longer live in ignorance, blaming others for our actions. You cannot control someone else’s actions towards you, but you can control your reaction. You can control your perspective. The Holy Spirit gifts us with self-control so we can change our unhealthy habits in relationships, and instead exchange them for God’s version that gives freedom!
Let’s Pray:
1.) Today we make it practical: Ask God for two tangible steps you need to take this week to have better boundaries in your work, family, and friendships. Pick a day to make it happen and follow through.
2.) Practice saying “no” and “yes” to family, friends, and co-workers today. Let God lead your choices. Conversation with God doesn’t happen only in the morning- let it carry through your day!
3.) Share with your group from #theFives (or your friends if you aren’t in session right now) about what steps you are taking and ask them to keep you accountable. Take time to thank God for your community!
