We searched and searched. We had been obedient to move to Texas, but couldn’t find a place to live. We wanted Fort Worth, longed for Fort Worth, but God had a different plan. All the doors had shut and we felt discouraged. Suddenly, one door flew WIDE open, leading us to my dream home.
We were wanderers. Now we have found a place to call our own.
This home sat empty for over a year, waiting for our family. Don’t you know God prepares things for you way before you know you will need them? This was no different.
We signed on the dotted line after negotiations, major “God” moments, and sending this letter:
Dear Homeowner,
I can still smell it: the rich cedar walls of the dollhouse given to me at age six by my father. He built it for me as a Christmas gift- a beautiful Victorian home with amazing detail, lovingly crafted by a man who wanted to see my face light up. Boy, did it work! For 26 years I have dreamed of crafting my home in a Victorian piece of history; the dark wood details and fireplaces coming to life when my family put their heart in the center of the home. The tall ceilings singing of a time long past, the front porch reminiscing the visitors that shared a glass of iced tea while sitting on its planks. History tells us a house is only alive as the love of the family inside.
I want to make your house come alive again.
My heart’s desire is to raise my children within the walls of history, teaching them the stories of those who came before us. The grand hall and intricately detailed doorways call out to a time when family came first and serving God was not a luxury, but a necessity of life. We raise our family with these values. We traveled from Kansas City to my husband’s hometown of Weatherford in search of a place to plant roots and raise our family. We prayed God would provide us with “just enough.” Your home is above and beyond anything we imagined finding. Our budget is small but our faith is big. I can imagine you have spent years in this home, lovingly caring for it and preserving the integrity of the original builders. I can see how the landscaping lining the yard bursts anew each spring. As an avid gardener that thrives in fresh soil and first blooms, this excites me!
If you want someone who will love this home as you have, we are the family. We will care for your home with the respect it commands and bring out the beauty it calls to in each of us. Your property will be cherished and kept a staple of the community for years to come. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your legacy.
“History isn’t about dates and places and wars. It’s about the people who fill the spaces between them.”
Sincerely yours,
The Willis Family

The letter was beautifully written. No wonder this family agreed to sell your family their home. They knew you belonged there and you would love it as much as they do.
Very touching! Wayne & I had a similar experience with our home. It, too, had been vacant for a long time (I think two years). And we had a bunch of “God moments” leading up to the day we actually purchased it. We live in a modest condo, but even after living here 8 years, I still am thrilled to own it. And I am so grateful that God blessed us with it. I am sure you and your family will create many beautiful memories there. So happy for you.
I’m praying I have even half the good fortune you had with this house!! It’s so perfect for you guys :}
