Peace In Me

WEEK THREE
DAY THIRTEEN
“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.“
Hebrews 4:1
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be the best version of yourself– growth is a good goal! A problem arises when we want those things more than God. (Ouch! Am I the only one?) Instead of making our own goals the pinnacle, why not look to Jesus? Jesus lived as fully God and fully man and was tempted just as we are. In Matthew, chapter 4, we see Jesus overcome three types of temptation we are all familiar with in our own life:
1.) Lust of the flesh.
2.) The lust of the eyes.
3.) The pride of life.
It is possible to be victorious against sin! Even though Jesus never succumbed to sin, he didn’t compare himself against others. He measured himself by the purpose God the Father gave him. We need to do the same.

When we shift our focus back to God and His purpose for our lives, we realign ourselves with His will. It’s much easier to run your race when you are focused on your own lane and what you must do to get to the finish line. Are you working to become more like Christ? Are you continuing to grow in your faith disciplines? With your focus in the right place, comparison feels pointless and you are finally released to “measure up” the right way.
LET’S PRAY
1.) Read Matthew 4:1-11. Ask God what you can learn from Jesus’ example. Which of the three temptations do you struggle with the most?
2.) Repent. Let the Holy Spirit reveal any thing you have desired more than God. This could be relationships, jobs, material things, etc.
3.) It’s time for a win! Ask God to show you where you are succeeding in His purpose for you.
