FRIIIIDAAAAAY!!!!! Jesus is the bestest, isn’t He? He’s definitely the best prayer buddy of all.
“Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the righthand of God and is also interceding for us.”
-Romans 8:34
What does it mean to “intercede”? It can be a big churchy word that people use without actually knowing the meaning. By definition, “intercede” means to intervene between parties with a view to reconciling differences : mediate
Who are the two parties? God, and anything that tries to steal us from his hand.
That means when Satan tries to tell God we should be condemned to die because of our sin, Jesus “intervenes” and reminds God of the blood He shed on the cross for us. When the world tries to rob us of our calling in Him, Jesus prays to God on our behalf that we may be strengthened to follow through.
Jesus is “interced-ING.” That “-ing” means always. In the process of. Non stop. Jesus is always sitting at the righthand of the Father, speaking to Him for everything we need. Jesus is our confirmed promise (Heb 6:16-18) and His prayers are powerful!
Let’s pray:
1.) Jesus’ nature is grounded in prayer. Look in your Bible for examples of Jesus praying in the Bible. What do you see as common threads?
2.) Thank Jesus for the role he plays in your faith. Without Jesus’ death on the cross, he would never have risen in victory over sin and be able to sit at God’s right hand. That means we would be left without access to God! Because He prays, we have access to heaven, now and in the future.
3.) Ask God how do you can be more intentional to pray for others. This week helped us see the importance of the buddy system in our prayers. Don’t let that end with this week! What tangible steps can you take moving forward?
