For day seven of #theFives we’ll learn how to pray God’s Word.
“For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”
-John 12:49-50
Jesus only spoke words that God told him to speak. He understood the importance of surrendering his words to a wise and powerful God. As we model our lives after that of Christ, we will find we mimic his habits. We will long to say the words that God has already spoken in the Bible, trading our loose language for his intentional use of words.
This works alongside our personal prayers. Speaking God’s Truth back to him is a sure way to stay in line with His will and His character. When we can’t find the words to pray or feel we are confused by what He may want, we can turn to the Bible to fuel our prayer time.
Let’s pray:
1.) Search your Bible for verses about a particular need you have right now. Looking in the back of your Bible may help you search by topic. You can also search Bible Gateway.
2.) Handwrite each verse you find that speaks to you. Make space in your journal so you can refer back to it again and again.
3.) Make the verses personal by inserting your name or praying them in first person.
For example: 1 John 4:18: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
Pray it for yourself: “God, your Word says there is no fear in love. Your perfect love drives out my fear because you do not want to punish me. Make me perfect through your love so I will no longer fear.”
