“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.“
Hebrews 10:24-25
This week we’ve been discussing ways God wants to refine us using our community. Let’s reflect on where we are engaging well and where we may be engaging too much. Do you have relationships that are continually growing in relational depth and pointing you to Christ? Are you that friend that encourages others and is intentional to meet up? These are good, balanced relationships.
Now let’s think about relationships with unhealthy expectations and boundaries. Are there any relationships (spouse, daughter/son, friends, coworker) where you have crossed over from being their cheerleader to taking control of or manipulating their situation? Where you have taken a larger role in their life than God has asked of you? A healthy relationship allows space for the Holy Spirit to speak to and convict each person as needed.
Let’s be great cheerleaders in this life together and trust God to do the refining in the ones we love!
Let’s Pray:
1.) Celebrate your community today! Thank God for the people that have been cheering you on in your journey. Maybe it is even someone you’ve met during #theFives!
2.) Is there anyone whose life choices bother you? How have you reacted to them in your frustration? Ask God how to love them without trying to control their behavior.
3.) Is there a friend or relative that has tried to fill God’s place in your life, telling you what to do in every situation? Have you allowed them to be your god rather than listening to God? Take time to pray through these and let God speak to you.
