“…so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.”
1 Corinthians 12:25-26
The Godhead– Father, Son, and Holy Spirt– shows us what it looks like to work together in perfect unity, each part existing to serve the other. We have been given unique gifts to serve God, and each person has a purpose. What happens when you feel your purpose is rejected, less-than, or even not needed? You can feel undervalued or discounted, and this causes disunity.
When we fail to understand our value and purpose the way God sees it, other people will always be our competition. We will use them as our personal measuring stick to see whether we are winning or losing. At its worst, we can even see others as our enemy.
When we work together in the body of Christ, we never have to feel alone or abandoned. We have all been accepted by God, even when it takes time for others to accept us. God created a place just for you in this world, and there are others that need you to step into it today.
Let’s Pray:
1.) Think back to a time you competed against someone else in a good way. How did you prepare for that competition? What did you feel in the midst of competing? What did it feel like to win?
2.) Now imagine a time when you competed and lost. What emotions rose up, and how did you begin to view the one that beat you? Ask God how these emotions are currently tied to your view of others in your community.
3.) There is a gift you have that God intended you to use. No one else has it quite like you do. Sit in the quiet and ask God to show you how He created you to function in unity with others, no longer hiding your gifts or competing.
