“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:32
That is a pretty big promise. We can be free from the junk restraining us from reaching our full potential! How? By knowing the truth. What is the truth? GOD is the truth (“I am the way and the truth and the life” John 14:6). We could read John 8:32 this way:
“And you will know God, and God will set you free.”
How can we know God? One way is by praying, which you are already doing (way to go!). Another way is reading the Bible. I have a feeling you saw that one coming, and you are already prepared with your typical answer– “I am not a good reader. Never have been.” “The Bible is just so boring!” “I don’t have time to read.” “I am overwhelmed by what I read so I’d rather not read it.”
If we want total freedom from sin and the stresses of living in a broken world, we HAVE to read. There is no substitute! The Holy Spirit will help you understand what you read. You need only make time and a new commitment to do it every day.
Let’s Pray:
1.) List everything keeping you from reading the Bible every day. Ask God for a solution to these things.
2.) Pick one chapter of the Bible to read (Need a suggestion? The book of James is my favorite). Start a timer on your phone or watch. Read the chapter at a comfortable pace. When you come to the end, ask God, “What can I learn from this?” When He is done speaking, stop the timer. How long did that take? What does that amount of time reveal to you?
3.) Now that you have made prayer a priority daily, how can you add in consistent Bible reading? The Bible says to walk in Spirit (by praying) and Truth (by reading the Bible). We need both to receive the freedom He promises! Pray for God to help you be creative with your solutions.
