“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

The majority of us in America have been blessed to have our basic needs met, and that includes food. When we let go of control of what and when we eat, we allow God to help us focus on the most important thing: Him. When our mind isn’t wrapped up in what’s for dinner, our mind is wrapped around God.
Fasting gives us focus, even when that focus comes at a price. It’s part of doing the hard thing in Christianity. Fasting is not a one-and-done process. It is a habit we need to develop as part of our regular obedience to God. As we wrap up week four, let’s not return to our old habits and forget the breakthrough God has given us!
1.) Is your brain space constantly occupied so you have no space for God? What do you want more time to think on? Pray for God to clear your mind daily so you can focus on those things. (This may require tangible steps of removing obligations that occupy your brain space on a regular basis.)
2.) How did your fasting go this week? Journal your emotions/hesitations/breakthrough.
3.) How will you work to incorporate fasting as a regular part of your connecting with God? If you are fasting today, what do you hope to see God do as a result of your obedience?
