“I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.“
Psalm 119:11
Memorizing scripture may not sound like a fun task, but it is worth the work. Once you are able to speak God’s truth into any circumstance, the battle becomes shorter and less overwhelming. You are able to comfort others and allow God to comfort you. You have an infallible power against any opposition that may come against you. Best of all, God’s heart is revealed to you through His beautiful story of redemption.
Memorizing scripture not only means being able to recite it, but allowing it to become (as the psalmist phrases it) hidden in your heart. When scripture saturates our heart, we understand how to pray, how to walk in holiness, and be close to God. This relationship is worth the work!
Do you feel overwhelmed with where to begin? We have some good news. This Fives journey of allowing God to refine us isn’t going to end on Friday. Wait, what? I hear you all screaming “I will not wake up at 5 a.m. any longer!” Don’t worry! We’re going to let you sleep in for this one. Let’s Pray:
1.) Pray about a particular situation in your life where you feel you need answers from God. Ask Him to reveal a Bible verse you can pray into that situation.
2.) Read the following verses about the importance of scripture. Journal anything that sticks out to you: 2 Timothy 3:16, Romans 15:4, Isaiah 55:11, Psalm 119:105, Psalm 119:9, Matthew 4:4, Hebrews 4:12, 1 Corinthians 10:13.
3.) Start writing some of your favorite scriptures in your journal or bookmarking them in your Bible app to prepare for the memorization teaching March 19th-21st.
