“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31
Have you ever stopped to question why you eat what you eat? Do you overeat during stressful situations or not eat enough when you are feeling self-conscious? Do you eat unhealthy foods to celebrate or to soothe? Believe it or not, even our eating choices can bring glory to God when submitted to His will.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:23, Paul says God can sanctify our spirit, soul, and body. We often let a diet or workout schedule decide our food choices, but have we ever asked God what to eat, or how much? The Holy Spirit is our guide and teacher, helping us understand what is best for our body. I don’t know about you, but I get overwhelmed with what the world tells us we should and shouldn’t eat (are we eating carbs again??). Can we agree to let God have the final say?
Let’s Pray:
1.) Our upbringing can create unhealthy eating and drinking habits from a very young age. Are there any family or generational choices with food and drink that you find yourself struggling with currently? Take time to pray for God to reveal those and journal about what He says.
2.) Ask God for forgiveness of the sins listed and release those habits to Him in prayer. Pray for God to break those generational sins today! Just because you were raised a certain way does not mean you will always be that way.
3.) Make a plan! Ask God (not your diet/friend/Pinterest) what is needed to improve in your eating habits. Choose one area to focus on (ex: eat more vegetables, eat smaller portions, etc). Make an achievable goal and share with your group so they can cheer you on and celebrate your victories!
Checking in #thefives.. …. WOW….. I prayed about this yesterday…Im dealing with guilt about not eating correctly…I have had 2 bariatric surgerys. Granted i have lost almost 200 lbs over the past 2 years, but im stuck…. not eating enough protein ,and eating more comfort food…not good….Im not communicating this to find sympathy im asking God, for today, to help me make the right choices…Did you write this spacificly for me???…. gotta continue to pray befor i comment anymore. Off to the gym, I’m putting on my headphones and listening to “Grace got you” (Mercy Me) and” I am who you say i am” (Lauren Daigal) on repeat….Boy God you are amazing, I give you this day,and ALL the glory!
Keep it going! God will continue to help you find the reason why you choose poorly for your body. It is all connected to our spiritual health, for sure 🙂
